Manchester City Wins First Champions League Title
Rodri Scores the Winning Goal, Ederson Makes Stunning Saves
Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul – June 10, 2023
Manchester City secured their first-ever UEFA Champions League title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Inter Milan at Istanbul's Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
Rodri scored the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute, driving home a pinpoint cross from Bernardo Silva. Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson then came up with two brilliant saves in the second half to deny Inter an equalizer.
The win caps a remarkable season for Manchester City, who also won the Premier League and FA Cup. Manager Pep Guardiola has now led the club to four major trophies in his six years in charge.
"It's an incredible feeling," said Guardiola. "We've worked so hard for this moment and I'm so proud of the players. They showed great character and resilience tonight."
Inter Milan fought valiantly but ultimately came up short. Manager Simone Inzaghi was disappointed but praised his players for their effort.
"We gave it everything," said Inzaghi. "We had chances to win the game but Manchester City were just too good tonight. They're a great team and I congratulate them."
