Bear Grylls Appointed as 14th Chief Scout

The Scout Association Welcomes New Leadership

The Scout Association, a UK-based youth organization, has announced the appointment of Bear Grylls as its 14th Chief Scout. Grylls, renowned for his wilderness survival skills and environmental advocacy, succeeds outgoing Chief Scout Peter Duncan, who held the position for six years.

Grylls, known for his adventures on shows like "Man vs. Wild" and "Running Wild with Bear Grylls," will begin his role as Chief Scout on July 1, 2023. He brings a wealth of experience in outdoor education and a passion for inspiring young people to embrace challenges.

Grylls' Vision for UK Scouting

In his new role, Grylls aims to build on the strong foundations of the Scout Association while introducing innovative ideas. He plans to focus on three key areas:

  • Youth Empowerment: Enhance opportunities for young people to develop leadership, resilience, and practical skills through Scouting activities.
  • Outdoor Adventure: Promote outdoor activities and encourage Scouts to connect with nature and learn about conservation.
  • Community Engagement: Strengthen the role of Scouting in local communities by supporting volunteerism and partnerships with other organizations.

A New Era for UK Scouting

The appointment of Bear Grylls as Chief Scout has generated excitement within the Scouting community. Many see his appointment as a catalyst for positive change and a reflection of the evolving needs of young people today.

The Scout Association's Chief Executive, Matt Hyde, expressed confidence in Grylls' leadership: "Bear Grylls is a true inspiration to young people. His passion for adventure, resilience, and community service aligns perfectly with the values of Scouting. We are thrilled to welcome him to this important role."

Grylls himself expressed his gratitude and outlined his vision for the UK Scouting movement: "I'm honored to become the Chief Scout and continue the incredibly important work of this organization. I believe in the power of adventure and outdoor challenges to help young people discover their full potential. Together, we will embark on a new era of Scouting, making it even more relevant and impactful for the young people of today and tomorrow."
